Community Development

-Creating an environment for initiative and independence-

Proposing New Structures for Socio-Economic Systems

The structure and functioning of society has undergone fundamental transformations in the second half of the 20th century. Depopulation, for instance, has accelerated in rural areas, where it has become difficult to sustain agriculture and forestry. The attendant deterioration of the infrastructure will lead to a decline in the quality of social service.

According to the definition given by the United Nations (E/2931, Annex P14 1956), community development isga process to unite the efforts of community and government that improves the economic, social and cultural conditions of the community and integrates it into national life in order to contribute to national development.h

In agreement with this definition, we believe that, to overcome their problems, local communities should unearth their own potential by taking a new look at their environment, life, economy, and culture, as well as the interactions among them. Moreover, they should establish a strategy for regional planning emanating from the long-term vision of the region's and community's future.

NIT's task is to help the local communities achieve these goals by bringing to light the distinctive features that constitute their natural and cultural potential. We propose a restructuring of the social and economic system that answers to the needs, both of the individual communities, and of their environment.
